Rheumatoid Disease (figure 8):


What are the pulmonary and eye conditions associated with this condition?

  • Remember the 4S's (scleritis (and episcleritis), sicca syndrome, Sjogren's & scleromalacia).

  • Pulmonary fibrosis (fibrosing alveolitis), pulmonary nodules and pleural effusions are the more common (although not absolutely common in themselves). Bronchiolitis obilterans and the now very rare Caplan's syndrome are also known associations.

What other conditions is sacroileitis a feature of?

Sacroileitis is a feature of all seronegative spondyarthritides; psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease, Reiter's syndrome.

What are the management options for patients with PVD?

  • Conservative (modify cardiovascular risk factors, exercise to develop collaterals)
  • Angioplasty with/out stenting (the figures show before and after angioplasty)
  • Bypass surgery

Severe Osteoarthritis (figure 23):


Features:

  • Loss of joint space
  • Subchondral bone cysts
  • Subchondral sclerosis
  • Osteophyte formation
